From ideas to innovation: inside the mechanincal design of our lines with Marcello Abruzzi

How our lines are born according to customer's request

Marcello Abruzzi, mechanical engineer and mechanical design office coordinator

For over sixty years, Storti s.p.A. has been producing woodworking lines that have become synonymous with precision, durability and custom engineering. To do this, the company employs experienced professionals who have grown up with the company and are now the driving force behind each of our innovations and achievements.

Through the project "Storti: Behind the lines - The people behind the company", a series of nine interviews with department managers, we will explore the operational core of Storti s.p.A. This in-depth look will introduce us to the company from a different point of view, to discover the process of designing and building sawmill and nailing lines directly from the voices of the people who work every day with a focused objective: to meet the specificities of each and every customer.

The protagonist of the first interview is Marcello Abruzzi, a highly experienced mechanical engineer who has worked at Storti s.p.A. since 2001 and now coordinates the Technical Office of Mechanical Design.

The crucial role of flexibility in the design and customization of our lines

Design, for Marcello, goes far beyond simply making a machine: it starts with the order and involves listening carefully to the customer's needs, the ability to study optimal solutions and the ability to adapt them, even considering the physical limitations of available space.

In his work, therefore, flexibility is crucial: in recent years, the ability to customize our machines has reached very high levels, allowing modifications at every stage, from design to even installation.

"In order to make work more flexible, faster and to be able to work with many people on one project, we thought of dividing the machines into modular modules, so that many different versions can be made for the same type of machine." This method not only facilitates collaboration among team members, but also allows for ongoing training. While more experienced designers focus on tailor-made solutions, new colleagues can grow and learn, maximizing the efficiency of the department.

In this way, Storti s.p.A., through professionals like Marcello, ensures that each sawmill line and each nailing line meets the customer's precise production requirements.
